Consorzio Tutela Casciotta di Urbino PDO
Many years ago, the breeders of Montefeltro planned to take the ancient preparation of “Casciotta di Urbino” to a broader dimension, with the aim of valorising the milk produced in the disadvantaged areas of the Apennines where sheep farming remained one of the few activities to protect the environment and the territory.
After obtaining recognition of the “Casciotta d'Urbino” PDO, the voluntary consortium for the protection of the cheese was established on 6 July 1992.
Formed from a membership base of 12 members, the consortium was later given the task of supervising the production and trade of “Casciotta di Urbino”.
